The Past
SPORTS TURF SERVICES started up in March 1972 by Michael Eddington with a total capital of £250.

From a rented base at Kinleith Mill, in Currie, both the sales and contracting structure progressed rapidly until in 1975 the Kinleith base wasn’t enough to accommodate this expanding business, prompting a move to a site at Newbridge, Edinburgh, where a 5,000ft warehouse and office base were ready in December 1976.

Over the next few years STS continued to grow, and soon had a very comprehensive range of products representing the leading turf industry suppliers and a site which was fully utilised. The sales business was soon providing Scottish Sports Clubs with a full range of fertilisers, seeds, chemicals etc. while the contracting side claimed a number of attractive projects including renovating the Murrayfield pitch and installing automatic irrigation on Edinburgh`s Hillend ski slopes.

SPORTS TURF SERVICES was purchased on February 1st, 2007 by Peter Campbell, who also owns the Turf Shop, which deals with the domestic side of turf installation and maintenance. Peter began employment as a greenkeeper, and went on to study Business Studies in Edinburgh before spending 22 years working for leading fine turf contractor and supplies company, Stewarts Turf. This training has given Peter the experience to purchase and run a company that in Peter`s opinion “has the best name in the industry”.

The Present
SPORTS TURF SERVICES have gone from strength to strength since the takeover in 2007. Moving into new premises at the start of 2009 was a positive move for the company who believe a more central location is vital to be closer to their customers, particularly those in the West of Scotland. The new “Centre of Operations”, which is based near Beecraigs Country Park, in Linlithgow, offers 8,000sq.ft. of warehouse and office space, allowing STS to continue to grow whilst staying in the heart of the country.

SPORTS TURF SERVICES is an innovator in sports turf management. By also implementing some of the time proven principles of turf care, STS can bring your sports surface to the level of excellence your members expect. STS pride themselves in putting out an advisory team to do initial analysis, and then a follow-up will be arranged by their trained greenkeepers or groundsmen, who will carry out the agreed maintenance. Continuity is vital to ensure the upkeep of sports surfaces, but with a team of specialists carrying out the work, owner Peter Campbell has no doubts that the STS team will ensure the very best of service from start to finish.
